This QQI Level 6 Communications Course is designed to equip the learner to communicate verbally and nonverbally in a comprehensive range of everyday tasks, in work related tasks independently, and/or in a supervisory capacity including using Social Media as a method of communication. An element of supervisory duties must also be incorporated into the work placement within their chosen vocational area.

The objectives of the course include
- Critique current issues in communications and information technology, to include digital and mobile technology, the internet, and the policies and principles relevant to a vocational area, while evaluating in practical terms the legislation that must be observed.
- Health, safety and welfare at work and communications-related legislation, and the responsibilities that apply when working in a supervisory capacity.
- Examine the impact of non-verbal communication, to include presentation aids, handouts, using effective listening skills, participating in groupwork; using different reading techniques, media texts, official documents, business communications; drafting, editing and proofreading skills and the correct conventions of language usage while displaying qualities such as assertiveness, self-confidence, tact, diplomacy, empathy and patience.
- Identify, and critically analyse, influences on communication.
- Critically examine and evaluate their own communication skills and those of others.
- Demonstrate competency in basic verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Determine the critical communications requirements for a given situation.
- Present information in a structured, coherent and appropriate manner.
- Work within a group to present a consistent and coherent message.

- Three options – Classroom, Blended and In-house.
- Delivered over 120 hours (including independent study and assessment)
- Delivered over 5 days/8 mornings.
COST
€495 per course, reductions for doing 2 or more courses. Further reduction in doing the full major award (Certificate in Advanced Business Management (6M4985) or integration of modules. Grants are also available.
PROGRESSION
Upon successful completion of this programme, the learner will be able to understand communication flow in a business and be competent in verbal and nonverbal communication skills. Mapped onto the NQF at level 6, you may use this module as a minor award towards gaining a full major award in many different Level 6 programmes, including the Certificate in Advanced Business Management (6M4985). This Certificate will enable you to progress to other programmes at level 6 or higher including colleges and higher education providers.
