OVERVIEW
In the past ten years, the workforce has changed dramatically. More than ever, a workplace is a diverse collection of individuals proud of who they are: their gender, their sexual orientation, their religion, their ethnic background and all the other components that make an individual unique. In order for a workplace to succeed and the organisation to thrive, management and employees must be able to appreciate and celebrate those differences in a positive progressive way. This course is an introduction to understanding and exploring diversity in the world and in work. It identifies where we can improve, as individuals, employers and organisations in understanding the pitfalls of stereotyping and how we can deal with and take responsibility for discrimination.
REQUIREMENTS
- Individuals that may have a role in the Human Resource department or have some remit here on behalf of the organisation/ business.
- People who are in a position of supervision or management and/or are responsible for managing staff in an organisation.
- Persons who wish to improve their knowledge of diversity within organisations.
- People endeavouring to understand how positive workplace environments work and plan to implement a plan of action for dealing with discrimination within the workplace

- Understand what diversity and its related terms mean! Understand what terms are politically correct and which are not, and why!
- Understanding diversity and how it has changed globally exploring how these changes have affected you and your view over time.
- Self-awareness – Be aware of how aware you are of diversity and where you can improve.
- A deeper look – the four cornerstones of diversity
- Understand what the pitfalls are relating to diversity and understand how to avoid them.
- The STOP technique the practise for dealing with inappropriate behaviour.
- Managing for diversity – develop a management style and organisational policy to encourage diversity and deal with an prevent discrimination including a strategy to support you or one of your employees, should they feel discriminated against

PROGRESSION
This course has been designed to help participants to improve their ability to effectively train employees on diversity within the organisation. It will support the HR department to put in place a plan to deal with discrimination and help using techniques/ practices to deal with negativity in the workplace. Participants have gone on to complete many of the management accredited courses at QQI Level 6 including Business Management, HR and Conflict Management.
