OVERVIEW
To do this, participants will:
- explore how to develop questions and their value in relation to the new role.
- identify the interview techniques that get specific, behaviour-based examples of past performance
- understand the strategies that follow through on this process.
This course defines how the competency-based interview can further additional communication techniques and the use of other types of interview questions resulting in hiring the best person for the role.

- Recognising the costs incurred by an organisations and businesses when a wrong hiring decision is made.
- Understanding why more and more organisations are using competency /behavioural based interview techniques and understanding how they are developed within an organisation/ specific role.
- Understand the ethical and legislation / employment laws that can affect the recruitment process.
- Developing the job description/ job specification (coming from the job analysis and position profile) with the outcome of understanding the competencies needed for the role.
- Writing the interview questions – use traditional, behavioural, achievement oriented, holistic, and situational interview questions and understanding the difference.
- Develop a fair and consistent interviewing process for selecting the right person from the scoring sheets to communication skills that are essential for a skilled recruiter/ interviewer.
- Other practicalities of interviewing – from advertising guidelines, screening CVs, developing an effective interview format, reference checking etc.

PROGRESSION
Competency based interview techniques will allow participants to improve their ability to effectively interview and hire new staff within an organisation. They will understand how to take a role from job analysis to competency interviewing to recruiting. Participants have gone on to complete many of the management accredited courses at QQI Level 6 including Business Management, HR and Conflict Management.
