OVERVIEW
This course focus on the human resource element of business as many organisations/business owners and managers face challenges in today’s changing environment. You do not always have the expertise to deal with the many employee relationship issues you face, and yet you will be expected to make decisions that are both effective and legal. This course explores the hiring process, from performing a skills inventory to conducting the interview; discuss induction and cover some issues that arise after the hiring process (such as diversity issues, compensation, and discipline).

- Explore codes of practice in recruitment, employment contracts, discipline, grievance, and redundancy.
- Be able to write job specifications and identify core competencies to inform the format of job descriptions and person specifications.
- Methods of finding, selecting and keeping the best people using competency based interviewing techniques.
- Be able to Interview applicants and appraise your staff effectively.
- Know your role in discipline and grievance cases.
- Creating and maintaining good employee relations – induction, employee health & safety, dealing with compensation and benefits, managing absenteeism effectively and engaging retention methods that ensure results.
- How to make performance appraisals a cooperative process.
- Practical trouble shooting exercises on real life situations.

PROGRESSION
This course will allow participants to improve their ability to manage employees and make ethical and legal decisions on their behalf. Participants have gone on to complete many of the management accredited courses at QQI Level 6 including HR and Employment Law.
